Phang

Petrichor suggests the the rocketship be refueled on a comet [Phang] in Issue #37.

Phang is a comet and the original home of Slave Girl, as revealed in Issue #5.

Phang is described as having diverse inhabitants, those of which had been engulfed with war against one another due to violent insurrection against the president. The inhabitants had proceeded to wage war and choose sides "between a government and its people", which both the Landfall Coalition and The Narrative are mentioned participating in. Phang is used as an ongoing battlefront between the two militias, as well as a crucial source of fuel. It's said to have soil full of energy, and it's mentioned that both locals and soldiers alike have been negatively affected by its demand. [Issue #37]

Natives of Phang are able to hear objects. This is confirmed by Halvor in Issue #28, but is first displayed by Slave Girl being able to hear Gwendolyn's translation pendant in Issue #9. It is also displayed by Kurti in Issue #37, as he see's through Izabel's projection, claiming he cannot hear the songs of the undead soldiers' weapons.

Plot[]

As a result of a punctured fuel artery and no available planets to land on, Petrichor suggests to Marko, Alana and Prince Robot IV that they land and refuel on Phang. Although reluctant, they decide to settle their ship amongst the ruins of Rideout City to avoid the active war. Upon landing, they meet Kurti, an unexpected inhabitant of the ruins. He introduces his family, and in inviting them and providing food and water, Phang becomes no longer a pit stop. Alana and her family, accompanied by Prince Robot IV and Petrichor, end up staying an elongated period of six months as Alana grows heavily pregnant.

Six months into their stay, Petrichor warns Marko against Kurti and Jabarah's family. Prince Robot IV grows restless, unwilling to leave Squire in Ghus's custody and miss his birthday. He confides in Izabel, claiming that fuel reserves might have been left behind within an old Robot Kingdom embassy, and that seizing it would ensure a quicker departure. She worries of the danger of his trip and offers to go in his stead as an 'advance team'. During her travel, she encounters The March, who is able to apprehend and interrogate her for information on Marko. In her refusal, she is executed and Hazel's soul-bond is severed. Unknowing of Izabel's death, Petrichor leaves to search for her alone.

The March enters the embassy, encountering a dying Ambassador Robot. He explains that the massacre had been a result of a disagreement between the staff deployed on Phang and the Robot Kingdom's Royal Guard considering the distribution of dire news to the hosts of Phang. He reveals their plan to exterminate all living creatures inhabiting the comet, and implies in his death that the wings and the horns alike had conducted and sent this plan underway. The March then finds and confirms sights on Marko, who with Jabarah notices the retreat of Wreath forces despite the odds of their current battle. Meanwhile, in Petrichor's search for the deceased Izabel, she is confronted by a bluecap. It warns Petrichor of Phang's approach towards a Timesuck.

Back on the ship, Alana is confronted by Prince Robot IV, intoxicated on Fadeaway. He threatens her before turning his cannon onto himself. Marko then returns from his scout with Jabarah, prompting Prince Robot to aim and fire at him. Alana then knocks Prince Robot IV over the head with a lamp, and the encounter leaves both Marko and Prince Robot IV unconscious.

The March approaches the ship with Kurti apprehended, demanding the presence of Marko and negotiating with Kurti's life. Alana approaches and counters their negotiation, claiming Marko had abandoned her and offering her unborn child as a scapegoat for her and Kurti's life. This backfires and Alana is apprehended, which prompts Hazel to cast a spell in order to free Kurti. Distracted, The March is then executed by an awakened Marko. They reconvene on the ship, Petrichor revealing the fuel The March had within their ship and reassuring they'll be able to escape the Timesuck. They prepare to leave, delayed by Alana disputing with Jabarah, as she refuses to let her family leave and board the ship.

Just beside the Timesuck, a ship called the HMS Observer Royal (deployed by the Royal Kingdom) discusses how Phang would actually be able to traverse the Timestuck's rings unscathed, but are fired upon by a nearby platoon of Landfallians. They claim to have executed orders, and use a device to disturb the Timesuck prematurely. This causes Phang to be swallowed and destroyed; the end of Jabarah and her family. [Issues #37-#42]

In Issue #49, a Landfallian tasked with the execution of the HMS Observer Royal and the obliteration of Phang is seen admitting the event and his crimes to a sex-worker, which Prince Robot IV offers to Upsher and Doff as a suitable news story to replace the report of Marko and Alana's unity.
